2024 Christmas Appeal

December 18, 2024

Dear Siblings in Christ,

Greetings in the name of our Savior Jesus, whose birth two millennia ago changed the world and whose presence in our lives changes us still.

During the seasons of Advent and Christmas, we are reminded of God’s immense act of generosity in becoming human and living among us. Jesus, fully human yet fully divine, taught a way of generous living for others that was revolutionary. He taught but also lived the way of love to the very end, sacrificing his own life for us and our salvation.  As we allow the truth of God’s love to find a place in our hearts and minds, we are filled with gratitude. We know that our gratitude is genuine when it is further transformed into generous lives, mirroring the generous life of Christ.

It is the tradition at St. John’s to make a special financial appeal during Christmastide.  In years past, money raised during the Christmas Appeal has enabled us to do such things as purchase air conditioning equipment for the Parish Hall and live streaming equipment so that our worship services can reach beyond the four walls of the church. Last year, Christmas Appeal funds were raised to renovate the Parlor, a space that is used heavily every week. A task force is currently meeting to make final decisions about this renovation work with the expectation that the work will be done this spring. These are all projects critical for us to continue God’s call to us.

This year, we are asking you to consider a financial gift designated to make some modest renovations to the parish kitchen.  The 50+ year old stove has been on its last legs for several years, and to ensure the safety of the building, must be replaced.  Also, one of our commercial refrigerators is broken.  In addition, we would like to replace some kitchen counters that have been rotting out and purchase some additional equipment that will help us execute the many special meal events that are held in the Parish Hall every year. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for this new equipment and work.

Christmas is a time of gratitude and generosity.  It is my hope that you will join me in being both grateful to God for the gift of Jesus and in being generous with our own resources.  You may give online by going to the St. John’s website or you may give simply by sending a check or cash. Please use the return envelope included with this letter if it would be helpful. I am grateful for your lives and for this parish family.  May you be assured in this holy season of God’s inestimable love for you.

Faithfully and Gratefully,

The Rev. Arthur B. Hancock

Rector
