As a deacon at St. John’s, Rick assists the Rector in the worship and liturgy each Sunday service. He will also preach the Sermon on occasion and will assist in other parts of the service as needed. The primary responsibility of a deacon is to bring the needs of the less fortunate into the church for prayer and action. In his role, Rick has been a part of TEC (Teen Encounter Christ) as a leader for the past decade and will travel twice a year around Minnesota to participate in this four-day spiritual encounter with youth. He is a Licensed Psychologist who recently retired from the Minnesota's prison system after a 25-year career in mental health work and is currently working part-time in a private mental health practice. When Rick is not working, he enjoys downhill skiing, slalom and barefoot water skiing, golf, fishing, hunting, and taking care of the modest family cabin in Aitkin, MN. Rick has been a life-long Episcopalian and has served at St. John’s for approximately 16 years.
