ALTAR GUILD

The Altar Guild is a service organization, active since the early 1920s, called to serve God by preparing and caring for the places and essentials of worship. Guild members maintain the linens, silver, brass, candles, vestments and altar hangings and are responsible for the sacramental elements and the distribution of flowers after Sunday worship. Along with Sunday liturgies, the Guild prepares for midweek worship, special liturgies, weddings, funerals and baptisms.

The Altar Guild meets monthly (except January, July and August) in the church Parlor for informational updates, training and fellowship. Several members serve each week, and a designated team leader works with the team to determine assignments for the week. Along with regular care, the Guild has special cleaning days before Easter and Christmas.

We encourage parishioners to provide the Sunday altar flowers for special occasions or in memory of loved ones. A representative attends the Liturgy and Music committee meetings.

The Sacristans (Men’s Altar Guild group) are responsible for helping the Altar Guild with the difficult and heavy work, often done around the holidays, and for special occasions.
